Lasallian Awards
By Ms M Fitzpatrick
The Lasallian Awards were introduced last year with the idea of engaging the students with the Lasallian
5 core principles:
Faith in the presence of God
Respect for all Persons
Quality Education
Concern for the Poor and Social Justice
Inclusive Community
These are an integral part of our school community which welcomes all faiths and none, which nurtures
and supports our students and in particular our most vulnerable students.
Being a Lasallian for our students means living in a specific way which spreads love, kindness and
compassion.
Our students learn in an environment of mutual respect where students learn from teachers and we the
teachers learn from our students.
At the core of a Lasallian education in De La Salle College is our concern with the physical, spiritual and
educational welfare of all our students.
Our students took on the challenge of working towards a gold, silver or bronze award. In order to
achieve these awards they undertook a selection of tasks under each of the 5 core principles. Some of
these tasks include attending a live mass, looking up the life of a saint, learning a new skill, linking in with
someone in their community who lives alone, and many more.
We had a very large number of students who worked towards these different categories of awards and
now it is our pleasure to acknowledge their hard work and commitment to the Lasallian ethos.
We were delighted to welcome Br Patrick and Br Damien as well as Board of Management Chairperson
Mr Joe Twomey to present recipients with their awards.
