2nd Year 2024

                                                                                        By Mr T Leigh

        A Snapshot into 2nd Year
This year's Second Year group had a very positive year in De La Salle College
Churchtown both inside the classroom and outside the classroom. All the students
embraced the core values of a Lasallian school through respect for all students and
teachers on a daily basis, inclusive community in how they looked after all their fellow
students, especially the new 1st years, concern for the poor with charity work throughout
the year and quality education in how they took responsibility for their learning in the
classroom. Well done to all the Second Year students. We are very proud of each and
        every one of you.

At the beginning of the first term, the Second Year group welcomed several new
students who had all settled in so well, very quickly and with ease becoming a part of
        the De La Salle Community.

This year has been very busy for all the students as they experienced CBA’s for the first
time. They have completed their CBA in the following subjects: Irish, Maths, English,
History, Geography, Science, Art, Woodwork, Business and French. All of their teachers
were impressed with their work in this area, especially as they had to combine CBA
work with other tasks that normally happen during the school day. Well done to every
student for their efforts with the CBAs.

        Sport

So many Second Years took part in sports throughout the year which included Rugby,
Football, Table Tennis, Badminton and Basketball. All of the above sports were entered
into competitions with teams competing with other schools and more importantly,
representing De La Salle College with pride. During the Summer Term, it was great to
see different sports being trialled by the students which included GAA and Golf.

Well done to everyone who played school sports this year and remember everyone is
welcome to join any of the school teams next year especially if you haven't played that
        sport before.

        Lunchtime Clubs

Two of the most popular clubs in De La Salle College at lunchtime are the Debate Club
and the Chess Club, both were well attended by Second Year students.
It was particularly positive to see so many Second Year students enjoying Debate Club,
partaking in such activities gives the students great confidence in other areas of school
life. Special thanks to all the teachers who give up their time at lunchtime to run the
        various Lunchtime Clubs.
