The Class of 2024 Graduation Speech

Good evening everyone. My name is John and I’d like to say a few words on behalf of all the lads

         
         here graduating today.

Six years ago we all left our primary schools and now here we are again, about to step into the
next phase of our lives. Six years ago we walked through those front gates into a place that felt
so much bigger than anywhere we’d been before and now it feels like a second home for many of
us. A place where we’ve learned, laughed and forged memories that will last a lifetime. A place
where people’s passion for sports, music and the arts was nurtured.

But it’s the people who really make the time here special. We were so lucky to have a year that
was as diverse as it was cohesive and I truly will miss all these lads. They’ve been some of the
most interesting, intelligent and funny people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and
personally the trips I went on with them have been some of the most fun I’ve ever had.

To all the teachers and staff, thank you. Not just for what you’ve taught us, but for the trips you’ve
brought us on, the patience you’ve had with us and the advice you’ve so often given us. You are
the difference between a good school and a bad school, and I think I speak for everyone when I
say that I will always be proud to call myself a Lasallian.

To our coaches on behalf of the rugby team, thank you both so much for coaching us through
thick and thin, and to all the teachers who gave up their own time to kindle our passion for sport
or help us out with our subjects after school. I'd like to thank you all on behalf of our year.

Regardless of where we go or what we do in the future, we will always be linked by this school.
But we came here for a reason. And now the time has come to put everything we’ve learned into
practice. Not just in exams, but in our lives here on out.

Thank you all for making these 6 years so enjoyable.

So to everyone here, please wish us luck.

         John Cleary
