The Lasallian Ethos is central to all we do in the College. This
year we welcomed retired teachers, past students and friends
of the College back for DLS Day. It was great to welcome back
Class of 2023 graduates Elliot Looney and Jack Campbell who
presented the school with the UCD Entrance Scholarship
Award they received earlier in the year . Elliot is currently
studying Law and Jack is studying International Commerce in
UCD. We also welcomed back Josiah Mahady who received
the prestigious award as a Trinity Entrance Exhibition winner
this year. Josiah is currently studying Chemical Sciences in
Trinity. We also had the privilege to welcome Minister Neale
Richmond to the College for the official opening of the new
building and to join us in celebrating the feast of Jean Baptiste
La Salle. I want to sincerely thank him and former Minister for
Special Education Ms Josepha Madigan for all their support
throughout the year. It was also a pleasure to open the doors of
DLSC to the local Churchtown community who joined the staff
and students for the DLSC Community Afternoon Tea
Event. Like last year, this event was so enjoyable and a great
opportunity for our students to meet and welcome many of the
Churchtown residents into the school. I would like to thank past
pupil and Councillor Sean McLaughlin, for securing funding to
go towards the hosting of this community event.
This year as part of the Lasallian celebrations, a committee of
staff and past pupils came together to organise a Golf Classic
for past pupils and friends of the College, to raise funds for the
College. It was a most enjoyable and successful event. The sun
shone and all the golfers had a great day and the non golfers
really enjoyed the dinner hosted at the end of the day. Special
thanks to the Organising Committee - past pupils Colm
Gleeson, Paul Sutton, Michael Kirwan and Tom Leigh. Because
of their commitment and hard work this event managed to raise
over €10,000 for the school!
The month of May is always incredibly busy as students
prepare for Summer and State Exams. Reports have been sent
via VSWare. Please review these reports and talk to your son
or daughter about their results. In DLSC we want to work in
partnership with parents to help your son/daughter to achieve
their potential. We ask for your continued support to ensure that
your son/daughter arrives at school, in full uniform, on time,
with homework completed and the necessary books and
materials for the classes of the day. Absenteeism means that
students are missing valuable tuition time and this will directly
impact on their results. We ask that parents do not take
students out of school for holidays and to arrange medical/
dental appointments when possible outside the school day
hours.
