Business Department

The Business Department has been keeping busy as usual.

Eoin McDonnell from the Student Enterprise Programme has
visited our school specifically with Transition Year students for
a series of workshops on encouraging and mentoring students

on becoming entrepreneurs and setting up their own business
          in school.

We have connected with Bank of Irelands Youth Banking Team
and are in the process of setting up a Virtual School Bank. 5th
Year students will interview with a member of Bank of Ireland
for a chance to take on one of 5 coveted roles in our De La
Salle Banking team. The roles are Bank Manager, Sales and

Marketing Manager, Operations and Audit Specialist and two
Customer Digital Advisors. This will be an incredible experience
of the interview process and students will be able to add it to
          their CV’s.

We hope to improve financial literacy across the entire school
and get our students from Second Year up saving and
understanding the banking system. Junior Cycle students have

talks lined up with Bank of Ireland also. These talks will be
based on financial wellbeing, income and taxes and saving and
          investing.

Senior Cycle students also had a number of speakers from the
business world regarding financial fraud, investing and risk,
borrowing and planning as well as a business start up
          workshop.

The Business Department have also liaised with AIB and are

part of their Future Sparks Programme. From this we have
access to many real life scenarios and resources enabling us to
clearly link our curriculum with real world experiences.

From class debates on Ireland’s Economy to Classroom Based
Assessments on various business topics, our Junior Cycle
Business students are developing their presentation skills and
confidence, essential for continuing their business education

          through to Senior Cycle.
