Scifest

Scifest is a competition aiming to promote
Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM) education by providing
a space for students at local, regional and
national level to present and display their
scientific investigations.

Five students from first and second year
have been carrying out experiments over
the last four months and meeting weekly to
discuss and analysis results and scientific
st
principles. Muyan (1 Year) has been
investigating if one can force a plant to
st
adapt to acid rain, Nathan (1 Year) has
been looking at the growth of different
genus of poppies in varying temperatures
nd
and Eoin, Leo and Khulsen (2 Year) are
studying what conditions can preserve fruit
the longest.

Students will travel to Tallaght IT on the 4
of May to present their investigations at the

Scifest Fair. There they will be able to see
other student’s exhibitions from all over the
country, listen to science talks and
demonstrations in the college laboratories,
get advice on careers in STEM and courses

available in the college and most
importantly have some fun!
