Boxing in PE
Boxing has become a popular activity in Physical
Education classes at De La Salle College, with 3rd
Year students learning the fundamentals of the
sport, such as the jab, cross, hook, and uppercut.
Through practicing these techniques, students have
gained a greater understanding of the sport and
have improved their overall fitness levels.
In addition to learning the basic moves, students
have also been taught how to use different
combinations of punches. These combinations are
designed to help students develop their hand-eye
coordination and to improve their reaction times.
Students have also learned about the importance of
footwork, as well as how to defend themselves and
counter-attack.
Several students at De La Salle College are also
members of the Nutgrove Boxing Club, where they
have had the opportunity to compete against other
boxers in the community. This has provided students
with a chance to showcase their skills and to build
their confidence as they progress through the sport.
One of the key people involved in helping to coach
the students in boxing has been TY student Peter
Mari. Peter has been instrumental in helping
students learn the proper techniques and has
provided guidance to help them develop their skills.
His experience in the sport has been invaluable in
teaching the students how to box effectively and
safely.
Overall, boxing has been a fantastic addition to the
Physical Education Curriculum at De La Salle College.
The students have embraced the sport and have
shown great enthusiasm for learning the various
techniques. It has not only improved their physical
fitness but also their mental wellbeing and discipline,
making it a valuable experience for all involved.
