Subject Choice week 2023

Our annual Subject Choice Week took place in January 2023.
Our Subject Choice Week is a unique opportunity for our
Transition Year students to start the process of gathering
information about the different subjects in advance of
making their choices for Senior Cycle.
The week started with a number of teacher presentations
which gives students an insight into what is involved in
studying particular subjects at Leaving Certificate level.
Our 5th year students provide a student information
perspective on what is involved in each subject area. This is
the perfect opportunity for Transition Year students to ask
any questions about subjects.
Our Transition Year students moved around the assembly
hall and took their time chatting to senior students about
the different subjects. The Transition Year students had a
series of questions prepared in advance to help to focus
their discussion with the senior students.
We also hosted a Parents Information Evening on Subject
Choice. This gave parents the opportunity to learn about the
different subjects in order to help their son’s and daughters
make informed decisions about the subjects they will study
at Senior Cycle.
As part of Subject Choice Week we held a series of
Apprenticeship talks which demonstrated an alternative
“Earn and Learn” route to college. With over 70
apprenticeships in a diverse range of areas, it is important
for students to be aware of other ways of gaining
qualifications.
