Odd Sock Day
Our 1st-year students organised an event in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day on March
21st. Key to the success of this day was the inspiring presentation given by Luis Allen who is a 6th
year student from Salesian College Celbridge. Luis and his mother Sandra very generously gave up
their time to educate our students about Down Syndrome and what it is like to be student in school
with Down Syndrome. Our Transition Year students had the privilege of listening to this fine speaker
commented that it was the best and most inspiring talk they had experienced. A massive thank you
to Luis and his Mum form the students and staff of DLSC.
Also on this day, students were asked to wear odd, colourful, or crazy socks to show their support for
individuals with Down Syndrome.
The event was a great success, with many students and staff members participating and wearing
their most creative socks. The 1st-year students were delighted with the turnout and were proud to
have organised an event that raised awareness and celebrated diversity.
At De La Salle College, we are committed to promoting inclusivity and diversity among our students.
Events like this one demonstrate the importance of accepting and celebrating differences, and we are
proud of our 1st-year students for their initiative and commitment to creating a more inclusive
school community.
We thank everyone who participated in the event and hope that it serves as a reminder to embrace
diversity and support those with Down Syndrome and other disabilities.
