5th Year Field Trip
By Ms A Doolin & Mr C Mulderrig
5th Year students carried out their Geographical Investigation Field Study at
Kippure Estate in the Wicklow Mountains on Thursday 7th March. Thankfully, the
weather was on their side as the snow from the previous week had melted and it
did not rain! The students carried out a number of tasks to examine the
processes of deposition and transportation on a tributary of the River Liffey -
Athdown Brook. They put on their best attire of waders and raincoats to measure
these processes within and on the banks of the river. The trip provided the
chance for students to see river features such as a meander and point bar. They
will write up their findings into their booklets and submit them next year. The write
-up makes up 20% of their Geography Leaving Certificate grade.
