Caring for Animals Module
By Ms T Gallagher
In the Homeroom Department, as a part of their ‘Caring For Animals’ module,
there have been several occasions of different dog breeds visiting the school
to inform us about the service of dogs in everyday life. Oti being an assistance
dog taught us his service towards people with disability to help them live life to
the full, helping improve confidence and reduce stress levels whereas Dora
being a Guide dog, was trained to guide those who are visually impaired safe
around obstacles.
For the focus being ‘Pet Care,’ a King Charles breed had been brought in and
the boys were informed on what they are able and not able to eat, how to train
them and how to look after them.
Mrs Gallagher as well as Peter had brought in their dogs. Biscuits for dogs
were made in the Home Economics department. The boys researched
different dog breeds and presented them to their peers.
